  • We tend to use both terms interchangeably here! “Sensory play” is any activity that engages a child’s senses - touch, taste, smell, sight, hearing. “Messy Play” is sensory play that tends to be more, well, messy! Squishing, splashing, scooping, scrunching - all excellent for a child’s development.

  • Sensory play is for everyone! While teacher’s and specialist utilize sensory play for children with sensory processing issues to feel calm and manage their responses; sensory play is beneficial and fun for everyone! Kids of all ages, from babies to elementary school age, can learn about the world using different textures, colors, and materials. These activities aid in developing important skills like fine motor skills, language, and social interaction. Sensory play encourages kids to explore, try new things, pretend, and be creative.
